Black oxide is a surface treatment for stainless steel pieces that combines aesthetic needs with technical performance.
The burnishing process provides that the screws are submerged in specific oxidising solutions at a temperature between 120 and 130° C. This phase allows the formation of a thin layer of oxides on the surface of the product, that gives it a smooth black colour. Then the screws undergo several washing cycles. Finally, the process ends with the application of emulsifiable oil, which enhances corrosion resistance.
From an aesthetic standpoint, black oxide provides the product with a consistent finish that satisfies different design and application requirements. Moreover, a significant advantage of this treatment is that the blackening layer has no impact on the product’s dimensions, as it has a thickness of about 1 micron.
Black oxide treatment also has an important technical function. The oxide layer that forms on the surface helps increase the product’s resistance to corrosion, making it suitable for particularly aggressive environments or variable weather conditions.
Italbolt, always attentive to innovation and the quality of its products, can provide this treatment for its entire line. This is just one of the many treatments available.
